official communique from the VSB
McBride Elementary will reopen on Monday (Sep. 18) after it was closed today (Sep. 15) because a sprinkler failed and flooded the east wing of the school.
VSB maintenance crews have mopped up the water. They have started work with a restoration company to dry out the building and repair the damage, which was extensive in some areas. The work will continue throughout the weekend and the district anticipates that everything apart from the library will be safe for students and staff to use on Monday. Work to complete the repairs will continue through next week and beyond.
The sprinkler went off before school started so no students were in the building at the time. All students who turned up at the school later were reunited with their parents and guardians by midday. VSB thanks the school community for their calm response to today’s unexpected closure. McBride staff look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday.
