Earthquake Practice

On Thursday, May 2nd all the schools in the Vancouver School10297506-earthquake-cracks
District practiced what to do in the event of an earthquake. As
you may know we have an earthquake
shed on the school grounds where supplies
are stored for use in the event of
an emergency. On this day at 2:00 pm
we played a tape that imitates the rumble
of an earthquake. Students went
under their desks or tables and held on
to the legs while everyone counts slowly
to 60. One minute is the recommended
time to wait before getting up to leave
the building. The students then left the building in an orderly fashion
and followed their teacher to the assembly point on the school
grounds. Attendance was taken. During this time we were in radio
contact with the school board who maintained surveillance of
what was happening and to whom we could report injuries etc. In
the event of a real emergency it may be that the usual person
who picks up a child is not able to do so. One parent may rush
straight to the school to find the child and take him/her to a safe
place and the other parent may come later. It is going to be very
important that we release the child to an appropriate adult and
also have accurate information to provide for anyone else looking
for the child. Please ensure that our office has the most updated
contact information for your child(ren).

Sports Day

Our Sports Day will be taking place on Friday, May
17th. All the children love sports day and look forwardindex
to it as a welcome day of fun. It is a time when
we see students in a different context and have an
opportunity to meet parents and for them to meet
each other. We are in need of parent volunteers for
Sports Day. Please contact Estella (778-388-9761)
or Cheryl (cheryl@hutchcroft.com). PAC will have
hot dogs, juice, potato chips, fresh fruit, samosas,
and ice cream for sale. As in the past, our PAC will
provide a popsicle for each student to enjoy at the
snack station. We expect it to be hot. Please provide
your child with a sunhat and somesunscreen.

FUND-RAISING INITIATIVES AT MCBRIDE FOR THE NEW PLAYGROUND

Last week we had a Bake Sale to raise money for our new playground. We
want to thank all the parents and students who helped us raise $300 from this sale.
We are happy to also announce that our Walk-a-Thon
event brought in over $ 9,575.21. We sincerely want to
thank Ms. Biln for sponsoring this event. Although it was
drizzling, the event was highly successful! Our students
thoroughly enjoyed the warm up and the laps around the
school. Congratulations to Divisions 1 and 9 who won
popcorn parties as well as the 34 students who won Vancouver
Canadians Baseball tickets.
